The Severance Season Finale could have been a mic drop Series Finale as far as I'm concerned!

***SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON 2 FINALE***

In my quest to write more content, I have to give my 2 cents on the Severance season 2 finale.

Phenomenal!

They filmed and edited it in such a way that if they wanted to leave it with just Helly and Mark running towards oblivion and not explain a ton of stuff the show developed over the 2 seasons, it certainly could have, just like a movie. I mean, we got a little closure on Irving the episode before as he rides off on the train to who knows where. We got a little closure with Dylan and his outie making a decision to co-exist (for now). Gemma is out the door of the severed floor, and Mark S and Helly R are together off to the races. What else is there to do emotionally with these characters? They accomplished the ultimate task of rescuing Gemma. Mic drop. Leave it there, and the show can go down in history as a phenomenal series.

But do we really want that? HELL NO!

What is now fascinating is all the setup for these characters for future seasons! Now innie Mark is now just gonna want to never leave work now that he has his Helly, which is totally bizarre and meta-ironic because who in their right mind wants to STAY at work? He's now holding his outie hostage! It’s utterly fascinating that Devon and Cobel (to a degree) didn’t consider that Mark S would want some autonomy of his life. Of course, the two of them and outie Mark are not even considering the innies' feelings just like Helly said, but we’re now seeing it play out in real time. Next season, I'm excited to see the ramifications of this and the rescue efforts of Gemma, Devon, and Cobel (maybe?) team up to get Mark out. And what about that creepy new painting in the severed hallway? There are too many easter eggs there that bring up TONS of questions on what it's ultimately trying to convey. This show reminds me of Lost so much in its answers-bring-more-questions format. I absolutely LOVED Lost, but the mystery box ending of that show rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

My favorite part of this episode, though, was the Choreography and Merriment department extravaganza! I absolutely WISH they had this at my job whenever I achieved my sales goal! It would make being at work so much fun! Milchick (I will now be referring to him as Milkshake from here on out) dance moves were HILARIOUS! Since Cobel got her solo episode this season, I PRAY Milkshake gets his solo episode next season when he goes back to the Lumon-sponsored HBCU school he CLEARLY graduated from! Fantastic stuff.

For me, this season upped the ante from the foundation it laid last season and has got me very excited for what's to come. If they left it here, though, and never made another, I would be just as okay with it because all of our main characters we followed got their closure to their emotional narratives that would have made this a great "mic drop" series finale. Especially the way the credits ran.

What will next season bring? Cant. Wait.

Excelsior!
